Compounds - this element has a atomic number of 24 and a atomic mass of 51.996. Chromium is a steel gray, lustrous, hard and metallic. Chromium has a melting point of 3465F and a boiling point of 4840 F. Chromium has 24 protons and 28 neutrons and 24 electrons. It comes from Group 6A, The Transition Metals.
Abundance - Chromium is rarely found in nature as a free element. It is mostly found as in ore’s scattered around the earths crust.Uses-Chromium is used in stainless steel, cutting items, amour plates and ball bearings. In the USA Chromium is very often found in alloys. Chromium is one of the 3 main items in stainless steel along with iron and nickel. When Steel is added to Chromium it forms stainless steel, also steel alloys are made of 10% Chromium.
History (discovery)-The Person discovered Chromium is Louis Nicolas Vanquelin. He was born on 16 May 1763 in Saint-Andé-d’Hébertot. He was a French Chemist and died on 14 November 1829 ,we do not know what he died of. Louis was experimenting with Siberian red lead in 1797 and this is when he found Chromium oxide. He did this by mixing it with hydrochloric acid. After he discovered it, he then released that there was no way of isolating Chromium. But in 178 he discovered that he could heat Chromium Oxide in a Charcoal oven and today it is obtained by heating Chromite in the presence of aluminum or silicon.
