This element was discovered by Sir William Ramsay and Morris M. Travers soon after the discovery of the element Kryton. Neon was discovered through the study of liquified air. Neon Is the fourth most abundant element in the universe, but only 0.0018% of the earth's atmosphere is neon. Neon was discovered in 1998.

The biggest use for neon is in advertising signs. People use neon all the time to aluminate their signs. Even though many people use it for signs it only turns red/orange color. This element is used also for High Voltage indicators and is combined with helium to make helium neon lasers. Liquid neon is used as a cryogenic refrigerant, this is a more efficient way to freeze things like food and used in blood banks.
